CF: What is your role during an event?

MM: As you can imagine, I wear a number of different hats for this event. A couple that come to mind would be Emcee, Programming Director, Sponsorship Coordinator, and Public Relations.

CF: What is the most satisfying thing about your role?

MM: Being able to expose the public to relatively unknown and emerging talent.

CF: What is the most frustrating thing about your role?

MM: Being a volunteer organization on a shoe-string budget, sponsorship is always our primary frustration.

CF: Who in your field do you respect the most?

MM: Michael Gilio, who shot an outstanding film (“Kwik Stop”) in Chicago, paid his actors, put together a quality crew, and showed that independent films can be successful.

CF: What work with the event are you most proud of?

MM: While similar events have disappeared, CCC has been able to present solid independent film lineups on a monthly basis for the past 3 years, while sustaining solid attendance and press.

Also, it is very fulfilling to see outstanding filmmakers hanging out together after the event, hopefully talking about future collaborations. Most of these talented folks would never meet otherwise.

CF: What's next with Chicago Community Cinema?

MM: Each year we’ve managed to raise the bar on the quality of our film lineups – 2004 will be no different. Also, we should have a very exciting announcement for everyone at our February 3rd event.
